A fun children’s fantasy book where seven fairies, one Forest Witch, and a Crystal Rainbow turn one wish into a wild, funny, heartfelt race.

A new children’s fantasy adventure, Witchfairy: A Fairy Odd Day, by PJ Lidgerwood invites readers into the Forever Forest, a place where flowers glow, animals have opinions, and a single wish can set an entire day spinning.

At the heart of the story are seven fairies with one shared dream: to become human for one day. That chance arrives on January 1, when the Forest Witch appears and the annual Chase begins. The rules are delightfully simple and also kind of stressful (in the best way): someone must tag the Witch to become the Witchfairy, then race toward the shimmering Crystal Rainbow without getting tagged back.

Each fairy brings their own style to the chase, from bold to bouncy to… honestly, a bit chaotic. And the Forest Witch, naturally, comes prepared with spells and tricks that keep the chase shifting. There’s plenty of laughter, quick turns, and a warm center that keeps it from being “just” a romp. It’s about friendship too. And wanting the same thing at the same time, which is hard.

“Kids love stories that move, and this one moves,” said a spokesperson for the release. “But underneath the sparkle and the sprinting, it’s about choices, loyalty, and how you treat your friends when you really want to win.”

Here's what your kids can expect:

  • A fast-paced chase story with clear stakes and playful twists
  • A whimsical forest setting packed with magic, humor, and bright imagery
  • Strong friendship themes that feel genuine without getting preachy

About the Book

Witchfairy: A Fairy Odd Day follows seven fairies through the Forever Forest’s New Year tradition, where tagging the Forest Witch can change everything, and reaching the Crystal Rainbow can make a wish come true, even if only for a day. Some days are short, but they can still be huge.
